Interview with Andrea-BarbosaEdit Entry

Taken on the Isle of Santorini

Tell us about yourself: Andrea-Barbosa
I’ve always been an avid reader and loved writing stories and poems. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and like most Brazilians, I love soccer, and sunny, warm weather!
1. What are you working on right now?
I have a couple of projects; another novel that I have started a couple of years back and now I’m reinventing it, and a guide book about raising vegetarian kids.
2. How does your work differ from others in its genre?
I don’t like to categorize my writing in a particular genre. In poetry, I write mostly free verses and different themes. In prose, my novel falls under literary fiction, however, I used surrealism and less dialogue to present the characters and their goals, and an element of surprise at the end to wrap up the story in an unexpected twist.
3. Why do you write Poetry?
I find poetry easy to write. In a novel, you have to think the whole plot, plan the characters, and describe the scenes with more realism. In poetry, I find that I can be more creative and somewhat vague, making allusions and playing with the words without giving them a specific meaning, but more of a feeling. It’s like expressing yourself without giving away too many details, yet letting all your emotions show.
4. How does your writing process work?
I don’t have a method, a routine. When I feel like I need to create, I just start typing away.
5. What inspires you?
Our world. There are too many beautiful things in this world to be inspiration for tales and tales…
6. What age did you start?
I can’t remember specifically, but before I was a teenager I was already writing poems, short stories and make up magazines!
7. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I don’t like to visualize or plan anything that far in advance. I’m the kind of person that takes a day at a time. I’d love publish more books and become a popular writer, though.
8. Anything else you’d like to share?
Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog with this awesome interview. Here’s a poem from my latest book, Holes in Space – A Poetry Collection:

Poème
You are my poem,
versed in love,
rhymed with passion,
worded with desire.

You are my fragrance,
bathed in flowers,
mixed with the scent of the stars in bloom.

You are my dream,
embroidered in silk,
sewn with illusion,
dressed with kisses.

You are my one, my heart, my love,
my eternal, my life, my light.
You are my forever,
my everlasting poem, you.
